Associating Contacts with Companies in HubSpot

Why aren't my contacts showing in their company records in HubSpot? We'll show you why that happens and how to fix it.

Sometimes you'll go into a company record and you'll find out that there aren't any contacts associated with it. Now, that may be because you actually haven't added those contacts to your database yet, or it could be because you imported your lists and the contacts and companies didn't get properly associated. Or sometimes it's because companies use multiple email address standards. For the example here, what if Harley Davidson had some domains that were harleydavison.com and other domains that were harley-davison.com? Sometimes people will have a different email address than the main company domain, and that will cause the contact to not be associated with it.

Either way, it's very easy to add your contacts to your company records. While in the company record, you just go to this top right corner and click Add. And first, we're going to look for existing contacts, particularly if you already know the contacts are in the system. Here we've got Jane Daniels. The domain name looks the same, so it's probably just a case where she didn't get associated with the company record. And we're going to hit Save, and now we've got Jane Daniels. Now let's see if there's another fellow in here.

Here we go. We've got Martin Phelps. Now here's an example where there is a dash in the domain name, so Hubspot didn't know to associate them. That can also happen if you've got people who work for a company, but what you have in your database is their Gmail address or an Outlook address, or maybe they work for multiple companies and they have a different company address. You can associate a contact with multiple companies, so it's not a problem.

If that happens, if you go to a company record and you don't see the contacts you expect there, hit Add and search under this Add Existing tab to see if you can find them. If they're not in your database already, not a problem. Just go to Create New and add your contacts from there.
