If you are importing a single-object list to HubSpot, you can set the contacts to marketable at the time of import.
When you import lists into HubSpot, you can set the list to "marketable" status at the time of import IF you are importing a single object list. This video will show you how.
Of course, if you are importing a multi-object list — or if you forget to mark the imports as "marketable" or just want to set some of the contacts on the list to marketable — you can also do that after you import.
There's a transcript immediately below the video.

Here is a quick instruction on how to manage marketable contacts when you're doing an import. If you're doing a single object import, you can set your contacts as marketable at the same time that you import them. To do that, you simply:
- Go to contacts and then select import.
- Start an import.
- Import file from a computer
- Select one file
- Select one object. If you select multiple objects at this point, you will not get the option to mark your contacts as marketable.
- From there, you select the type of object you're importing. So in this case, it's contacts.
- Select a file
- Then you can select if you want to create and update the contacts, only create the new ones, or just update the existing ones. So we're going to create an update.
- Next, make sure that your contact properties have matched.
- Next, always create a list from your import because if you need to do post import management, it will be really helpful to have it set up as a list. So I usually just name it whatever the list name is that I'm importing.
Next, agree to the responsibility statement.

- And now you have the option to set this contact as a marketing contact. Remember, in HubSpot, if you go over your marketing contact allowance, it will increase your bill. So you just want to monitor. And they give you the tools to monitor that. They tell you how many contacts you'll have remaining after this import, and you verify that you've read this note.
And at that point, you can finish your import.
Now I'll show you what to do if you choose not to mark them as a marketing contact on import, or if you forget to, or if you just want to do part of that list. So to set contacts to marketing or marketable in bulk:
- Go to lists and you would select the list.
- Select the contacts you want to include. Remember, at the bottom of the list it will show you how many contacts you are showing per page.
- If you want to select the whole page, you can. The default will be 25 per page. So if you want to select 100 at a time, change this setting to 100.
- Then you click More
- Here you can set them as marketing contacts, or conversely, you can also set them as nonmarketing contacts.

So if you're importing a single object, you can mark them as marketable when you import the list, or you can set them to marketable after the list has been imported.
