      Connecting HubSpot with WhatsApp for Business

      Making the connection between HubSpot and WhatsApp for business can be tricky. Here are a few things to think about to make your connection experience more satisfying.

      HubSpot provides excellent instructions for connecting your WhatsApp business account to HubSpot as one of your communication channels. You can find these instructions here:

      However, there are a few things that we want to call out, because despite being written in the instructions, they always seem to get missed! If you do not do these things, your WhatsApp for business channel will not get connected.

      1. HubSpot gives the option to connect an existing WhatsApp business account or to connect a new WhatsApp business account.
      2. You cannot connect a WhatsApp personal account.
      3. The HubSpot WhatsApp business connection takes over, and after it is connected, you no longer receive any messages in the WhatsApp mobile app or web app - only in your HubSpot account. 
      4. If you connect an existing WhatsApp business account, do it under a new phone number (WhatsApp business accounts can have up to 25 numbers associated with them). 
      5. Or set up a new WhatsApp for business account. After all, this number will only work in HubSpot anyway! Making the connection to a new WhatsApp business account also seems to be a bit easier than connecting to a new number on an existing account.
      6. Remember: Whatever number you assign to your WhatsApp for business account, it has to be capable of receiving both voice and text messages, and it cannot be part of an IVR system (or you have to disconnect IVR for the time it takes to make the connection).

      Facebook/Meta Issues

      • It is also important to have a verified Meta Business Manager account. If your account is not verified, HubSpot will limit you to 50 WhatsApp conversations per day. Learn more about verifying your business with Facebook/Meta.
